Porsche 911 Carrera Targa RUF BTR III G50 5-Speed Conversion
A one-off example of RUF’s turbocharged 911 conversions, this RoW 1985 Porsche 911 Carrera Targa is said to be the sole Targa converted to BTR III specifications. The car was recently subjected to a comprehensive, no-expense-spared restoration performed to original RUF specifications, including a refinish in its factory Guards Red color and full rebuilds of the engine, transmission, suspension, and braking systems.
The 17” RUF Speedline alloy wheels are mounted with new tires, and the RUF CTR-spec brake calipers were refinished during the restoration. Additional details include RoW-specification side marker lights and bumperettes, a black Targa bar, and a removable black roof panel.
The cabin was restored in 2024 in accordance with its original RUF BTR III specification, featuring reupholstered front and rear seats trimmed in black leather with striped velour inserts, along with a leather-covered dashboard and trim panels. New carpeting was installed, and numerous interior components were refreshed or replaced during the process.
Rated at 430 HP, the RUF BTR III specification 3.4-liter turbocharged flat-six features dual fuel injectors, a proprietary Bosch engine management system, a RUF intercooler, and a dual-outlet exhaust system. The engine is paired with a RUF-installed G50 5-speed manual transaxle equipped with a RUF-modified 40% limited-slip differential.
The BTR III conversion included a RUF front valance with integrated fog lights, RUF badging, quad exhaust outlets, and a Turbo-style “tea tray” rear spoiler.
Equipment includes power-adjustable front seats with Sabelt racing harnesses, a leather-wrapped three-spoke RUF steering wheel, RUF boost control and brake bias adjustment knobs, RUF-branded VDO instrumentation, a RUF-installed air conditioning system, power windows, central locking, and a Blaupunkt cassette stereo with updated speakers.
